Ron Shelp Fallen Giant Meet popular American author Ron Shelp! Shelp will discuss his recently published book, "Fallen Giant", which the New York Times called “one of the great unsung stories in American business.” The book traces AIG’s history from its founding in Shanghai in 1919 by C.V. Starr through Asia expansion, its’expulsion by the Japanese and WWII activities working with Wild Bill Donovan, founder of the OSS, and expulsion a second time by Mao Tse-tung. Eventually, Starr picks Hank Greenberg to succeed him and over 37 years Greenberg builds it into largest insurer in world with stock growth that made a few billionaires and many millionaires at AIG. Then he is ousted by Attorney General Spitzer for alleged accounting fraud. Yet Greenberg remains a powerhouse, running three private Starr organizations. Shelp will discuss the lessons to be learned and what happens next. Fallen Giant will be published in China this month and later in Korea. A movie is underway as well. BIO
