The CNIL Consultation on Cloud Computing: An Open Discussion with the CNIL on its Findings and Recommendations with Florence Raynal (Head of International and European services of the CNIL)

Cloud computing is revolutionizing IT and with it much of the business world.  The economic, organizational and technological implications of cloud computing are many.  But cloud computing also creates significant issues concerning the protection of personal data that are stored and processed in the cloud.

In the fall of 2011, the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) launched a public consultation with a view to exploring legal solutions with respect to cloud computing technologies and contract practices. The CNIL specifically sought to obtain feedback from professionals -- providers, customers and advisers -- concerning the impact of cloud computing on personal data protection, and the various ways in which data privacy laws influence the cloud.
On June 12, 2012, AmCham members will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from the CNIL the results of its consultation, principal findings and recommendations, and to discuss the implications thereof.
