The merger of the New York Stock Exchange with Euronext was a landmark of globalization and a sign of the increasing interdependence of North American and European economies. With company ownership becoming ever more multi-national, it is logical that equity markets should also. This has created new efficiencies and economies of scale, and could increase economic stability at a time when financial markets are in turmoil. On January 17, Catherine Kinney, who as President and COO of NYSE-Euronext is at the nexus of this new globalized equity world, explained how this new entity has been working to AmCham and American Club members.

Ms. Kinney, who is based in Paris, is responsible for overseeing the company’s global listings and US market data businesses. Prior to that position, she served as executive vice president since 1995. From 1986, she was responsible for managing trading-floor operations and technology. Ms. Kinney’s earlier career at the NYSE spanned several departments, including regulation, sales and marketing. Ms. Kinney graduated Magna Cum Laude from Iona College and completed the Advanced Management Program, Harvard Graduate School of Business. She has received honorary degrees from Georgetown University and Rosemont College. She is a member of the boards of Georgetown University and Catholic Charities. She served on the Board of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. from 2002-2004 and Depository Trust Company from 2003-2007. Ms. Kinney will speak in English.
