• CNIL Workshop

    December 05 2008, 09:00 - 09:00
    Location: AmCham France

On Friday, Dec. 5, beginning at 8:30 AM, AmCham will sponsor a workshop with the French Data Protection Authority (the "CNIL") on the topic of Binding Corporate Rules ("BCRs").

The transfer of personal data outside the EU is often subject to a number of requirements, depending upon whether the entity receiving the data is located in a country deemed to provide adequate protection for personal data.  These requirements can be quite burdensome, especially in multi-national groups with complex personal data flows.   The adoption of BCRs by a corporate group permits the transfer of personal data among all entities belonging to that group, regardless of where they are located.

The CNIL, along with other European Data Protection Authorities, are stepping up their efforts to encourage groups to adopt BCRs.  The Authorities have recently published checklists and guidelines designed to facilitate the adoption of BCRs.  In addition, nine Authorities have implemented a mutual recognition system, intended to speed approval of BCRs in the participating Member States.

AmCham is pleased to welcome to the workshop Florence Raynal, Chef de service des relations européennes et internationales at the CNIL, who will present the latest developments in BCRs and discuss the procedures for adopting BCRs.

The workshop will be conducted principally in French.  Reception will open at 8:30 AM and the workshop will start at 9:00 AM.
