On June 19, former Finance Minister and current Paris Deputy Mayor Christian Sautter met with President's Council and Corporate members to discuss investment incentives in Paris. Mr. Sautter presented new strategies to attract greater foreign investment to the city. Mr. Sautter highlighted the city’s vision to make the travel industry more attractive and competitive with plans to build new hotels and increase hotel room capacity by 7000 by the year 2020. Environmental issues were also touched upon. The city aims to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 25% between 2004 and 2020. Paris’s transport system served as another interesting topic of discussion, in which members raised their concern of its lack of efficiency and accessibility.
The meeting, a breakfast round-table held at Hotel de Ville, allowed ample opportunity for members to share their views on how to improve the city’s investment and business climate. Christian Sautter served as the Finance and Budget Minister under Dominique Strauss-Kahn. In 1999, he succeeded the latter as Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry. Since 2000, he is President of the France Active association, which finances the creation, development and consolidation of enterprises.
