    October 09 2009, 08:30 - 08:30
    Location: Microsoft

“Advancing social innovation and economic development in challenging times” and a tour of Microsoft’s new headquarters.
A roundtable discussion with Akhtar Badshah, Microsoft’s Global Community Affairs Senior Director; a key member of Microsoft's Corporate Social Responsibility team worldwide, Badshah manages the Unlimited Opportunity-Community Skills Program, which helps narrow the technology skills gap, aid global work-force development and create social and economic opportunity by providing technology training.  Mr. Badshah also helps non-profit organizations improve their effectiveness through increased technology capacity.
Information Technology is evolving at a rapid pace and because of ability to store data we are now seeing convergence between 3 devices – TV, Computer and Mobile Phone. For NGOs to reach their full potential through IT there is still a long way to go. For AmCham members, M. Badshah will elaborate on Microsoft’s commitment to invest in this space to help non profits embrace the changes that are coming and work with the business and developer community to develop these new solutions, so no one is left behind.
Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Badshah, who has a doctorate from MIT, was CEO of Digital Partners Foundation, which used the digital economy to aid the poor.  He is on the boards of several organizations, including the World Affairs Council, and is the author or editor of several books and articles on the link between technology and development.
Our breakfast discussion will be followed by a visit of Microsoft's brand new high-tech headquarters and ecology friendly building in Issy-les-Moulineaux. This Microsoft “Campus” occupies an innovative High Environmental Quality building with a striking architecture, located at the entrance to the Seine Ouest business park, which is a major new center for the media and high-technology sectors. It houses the headquarters of Microsoft France and Microsoft Europe, plus the French branch of the European Development Center for internet research.
